Two weekends ago, Jane and I headed into the city to see a visiting college friend for lunch. I noticed as we passed the Virgin Megastore that some cast members from The L Word were making an in-store appearance that very afternoon. Girls were already lining up behind ropes in front of the store. If it had just been Jane and I, we would have felt too sheepish to check it out, but Jonathan encourages our campy side. So we came back after lunch.
To our surprise, the L Word ladies weren't mobbed. The deal was you had to buy something (like a DVD box set) to get them to sign. So Jane bought the first season set--$20 cheaper than seasons 2 or 3--and got in line.
I hung back in the crowd and took crappy pictures. Jane stepped up and got all their signatures, and even talked to the executive producer. I was proud of her--she told the producer that she enjoys the show, but it doesn't exactly reflect our life. The producer graciously said she was sure Jane's life was much more glamorous than Jane made it out to be.
We heard from one of the handlers that the ladies were appearing at a sold-out party that night, with tickets selling on EBay in the thousands of dollars. It was very silly, but we had fun, and Jonathan got it all in a video on his camera.
